Available in a wide range of grades including carbon steel (Q195, Q235, Q345, SS400, S235JR, S355JR), alloy steel, and weathering steel. Thickness range: 1.5mm – 20mm. Width: 600mm – 2000mm. Coil inner diameter: 508mm or 762mm. Coil weight: custom, typically 5–25 tons. Surface condition: as-rolled (black, with mill scale) or pickled and oiled (clean, oxide-free). Edge condition: mill edge or slit edge. Easy to cut, level, bend, and hot form. Custom widths, coil weights, and edge conditions available. Meets ASTM A36, EN 10025, JIS G3101, or GB/T 3274 standards.

Application description:

Widely used in construction (structural beams, bridges, railway tracks), automotive (chassis, wheels, truck frames), pipe and tube manufacturing, storage tanks, shipping containers, agricultural equipment, and heavy machinery components. The coil form enables efficient slitting, roll forming, and stamping for large-scale production. Ideal for applications where surface finish is less critical than strength and formability.

Production description

Continuous casting of molten steel produces slabs. Slabs are reheated to 1150–1250°C in a reheating furnace, then descaled and passed through roughing mills to reduce thickness. The rough bar enters a finishing mill train where it is rolled to target gauge at high temperature. After rolling, the strip is cooled by laminar water flow on a runout table to achieve desired mechanical properties (grain refinement and strength). It is then coiled at high speed. The hot rolled coil may optionally be pickled in acid to remove mill scale and oiled for improved surface quality. The coil is inspected, edge trimmed if required, and prepared for shipment. Finished coils are tested for thickness, width, and mechanical properties.

Shipping Packaging

For export, hot rolled steel coils are wrapped with moisture-proof polyethylene, placed on steel skids or ISPM-15 certified wooden pallets, secured with steel straps, and fitted with edge protectors and coil protectors. Pickled & oiled coils require VCI paper. Labels include grade, dimensions, coil weight, and heat number for safe sea freight.

FAQ

1. How to prevent rust on hot rolled steel coils before use?
Store in dry, well-ventilated area, keep original wrapping intact. For as-rolled (black) coils, surface rust is normal and can be removed by sandblasting or pickling. Pickled & oiled coils must stay dry to avoid flash rust.

2. Can hot rolled coils be cut and welded easily?
Yes. Use plasma, shearing, or oxy-fuel cutting for as-rolled coils; pickled coils can also be stamped or laser cut. Standard welding methods (MIG, arc, etc.) work well. Remove mill scale near weld areas for best results.

3. What is the difference between Q235 and S355JR hot rolled coils?
Q235 is general-purpose structural steel with minimum yield 235 MPa, suitable for light to medium loads. S355JR offers higher strength (355 MPa), ideal for heavy-duty structures, bridges, and high-load applications.
