Wire Rod
Classification :
Product Description
Produced by hot rolling steel billet into a long, thin round section, then coiled into a compact ring. Features uniform diameter, good surface quality, excellent drawability, and consistent mechanical properties. Available materials: low carbon steel (Q195, Q235, SAE1006, SAE1008), medium carbon steel (SAE1045, SAE1050), high carbon steel (SAE1060, SAE1070, SAE1080), alloy steel (40Cr, 20Mn2, 35CrMo), stainless steel( 304, 316L), and spring steel (65Mn). Diameter range: 5.5mm – 25mm. Coil weight: 0.5 – 2.5 tons (typical). Surface finish: black (as-rolled), pickled & oiled, or phosphated. Manufacturing: controlled rolling and controlled cooling (Stelmor process) to achieve fine grain structure and uniform decarburization layer. Options: cold heading quality (CHQ), welding wire quality, or direct drawing quality. Meets ASTM A510, JIS G3505/G3506, EN 10016, or GB/T 14981 standards. Custom diameters and coil weights available upon request.

Application description:
Widely used for drawing into fine wire for nails, wire mesh, fences, cables, and springs. Also serves as raw material for manufacturing fasteners (bolts, screws, rivets), welding electrodes, reinforcing wire for concrete, and steel ropes. Suitable for cold heading, cold forging, and further processing into various industrial and construction components.

Production description
Steel billet is heated to 1050–1150°C, then rolled through a roughing, intermediate, and finishing mill to achieve the desired diameter (5.5–25mm). The rod exits the final stand at high speed and is cooled on a Stelmor controlled cooling conveyor (water and air cooling) to refine grain structure and control scale formation. The rod is then coiled into rings, inspected for surface defects, diameter tolerance, and mechanical properties, and bundled for shipment.

Shipping Packaging
For export, wire rod coils are compactly bundled with multiple steel straps, wrapped in VCI paper and moisture-proof polyethylene, packed on ISPM-15 wooden pallets or steel skids, and fitted with edge protectors. Labels include grade, diameter, coil weight, and heat number for safe sea freight.

Why Choose Us?
1.Factory Strength:Direct manufacturer with high-speed wire rod mills and Stelmor controlled cooling lines, ensuring precise diameter tolerance (±0.15mm), uniform microstructure, and stable mechanical properties for diameters 5.5–25mm.
2.Quality Assurance:Strict control of chemical composition, surface defects, decarburization layer, and tensile strength; 100% eddy current or ultrasonic testing available; compliant with ASTM A510, JIS G3505/G3506, EN 10016, GB/T 14981.
3.Certifications & Reports:Mill test certificates (MTC) with each shipment; third-party inspections (SGS, BV) and microstructure/drawability test reports available upon request.
4.Customization & Service:Wide grade range (low/medium/high carbon, alloy, stainless, spring steel), diameters 5.5–25mm, custom coil weights (0.5–2.5 tons), surface finishes (black, pickled & oiled, phosphated), and cold heading quality (CHQ) options with fast lead times.
5.Export Packaging:Compacted coils + steel strapping + VCI paper + moisture-proof wrapping + ISPM-15 pallets/steel skids + edge protectors for safe sea freight and rust prevention.
FAQ
1. How to store wire rod coils to prevent rust and surface damage?
Store on dry, elevated surfaces (wooden pallets or concrete) under cover. Keep original VCI paper and moisture-proof wrapping intact. For long-term storage, apply rust preventive oil. Avoid stacking heavy objects on coils to maintain shape. Surface rust on low-carbon rods is usually removable by pickling before drawing.
2. Can wire rod be drawn into fine wire without intermediate heat treatment?
Low carbon grades (SAE1006, Q195) can be drawn directly to moderate reductions. For high carbon grades (SAE1060–1080) or fine wire (below 1mm), intermediate patenting and annealing are required to restore ductility and prevent wire breakage. We recommend testing drawability before mass production.
3. What is the difference between cold heading quality (CHQ) and general drawing quality wire rod?
CHQ wire rod has stricter control of surface defects, internal cleanliness, decarburization, and microstructure, ensuring it can be cold-formed into bolts, screws, and rivets without cracking. General drawing quality is suitable for wire mesh, nails, and welding electrodes where extreme formability is not required.
